Sea Safe Work Day / Safe Work Australia Week

In the past Sea Safe Work Day has been aligned with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) World Day for Safety and Health at Work, held on 28 April each year.  The ILO day aims to raise awareness about how to make work safe and healthy, and to draw international attention to the need to raise the political profile of occupational health and safety.

While continuing to support safety related activities in recognition of the ILO day, the Seacare Authority has agreed to align Sea Safe Work Day with the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) World Maritime Day.  The IMO acknowledges World Maritime Day day on the last Thursday of September each year.  Governments are encouraged to hold activities acknowledging this day during the last week in September each year.

Seacare scheme operators / employers are encouraged to promote specific activities on Sea Safe Work Day that seek to contribute toward the reduction of the incidence of workplace injuries.

Safe Work Australia Week is held in the last week of October each year.  This week, which aligns all state and territory safety weeks, was developed to focus attention on workplace safety issues.  During Safe Work Australia Week all working Australians, particularly employers, are asked to focus on health and safety in their workplace with the aim of improved safety outcomes.

The Seacare Awards & Conference events are held every two years, usually during Safe Work Australia Week

The Seacare Authority and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) have produced a poster  [pdf 1Mb] to acknowledge Sea Safe Work Day - 25 September 2008 - and the inaugural Seacare HSR Forum 2008, to be held on that day.
