Major Reforms to Shipping Announced

On Friday 9 September 2011 the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, the Hon Anthony Albanese MP, announced a package of reforms for the Australian shipping industry.

The reforms announced by the Minister are designed to revitalise Australian shipping.

More Australian owned and flagged ships competing on international and interstate trade routes may mean an increase in the size of the Seacare jurisdiction.

This coupled with the re-writing of the Navigation Act 1912 and the harmonising of work health and safety laws herald a time of change that will have an impact on employers and employees in the Seacare scheme.
