Winners announced in 2010 Seacare Awards

The Seacare Authority announced the winners of its 2010 Seacare Awards at a gala dinner event on Thursday 28 October 2010. Close to 150 guests attended this year's Awards night at MAIA at Central Pier in Melbourne's Dockland precinct.
 


The Seafarers Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Authority (Seacare Authority) today announced the winners for its 2010 Seacare Awards. The 2010 Awards include a new category, Best Workplace Health and Wellbeing Program which focuses on keeping workers healthy at work.

A record 28 nominations were received for the Seacare Awards from employers, employees, operators, seafarers and others who contribute to the Seacare scheme. This was the fifth time the Seacare Awards have been presented to acknowledge successful and positive leadership in best-practice work health and safety, rehabilitation and return to work programs.

Seacare Chairperson Mr David Sterrett, said “the awards this year had a new focus on keeping workers healthy at work and from the high quality of nominations received and subsequently the winners in each category, this clearly demonstrates the commitment of all those involved in the Seacare scheme to improving health and safety in the maritime industry.”

Winners were announced at a gala dinner presentation last night at MAIA at Central Pier, Docklands, Melbourne.

The winners in each of the five award categories are:

Category 1: Best Workplace Health and Wellbeing Program

  • P&O Maritime Services— P&O Maritime Services Health & Wellbeing Program

Category 2: Best Workplace Health and Safety Management System

  • Farstad Shipping (Indian Pacific)—Farstad Shipping Integrated Management System Version 3.0
Category 3: Best Solution to an Identified Workplace Health and Safety Issue
  • Offshore Marine Services and Reliance Workplace Solutions—The Recruitment of Crew for Remote Locations Procedure

Category 4: Best Individual Contribution to Workplace Health and Safety

  • Stuart King, Teekay Shipping Australia
Category 5: Best Rehabilitation and Return to Work Award
  • Offshore Marine Services/Reliance Workplace Solution—OMS Injury Management Team

Winners of the Best Workplace Health and Safety Management System, Best Solution to an Identified Workplace Health and Safety Issue and Best Individual Contribution to Workplace Health and Safety will be submitted for entry in the National Safe Work Awards administered by Safe Work Australia.
