Amended Seacare scheme exemption guidelines and form now in effect

The Seacare Authority has agreed to changes to its exemption guidelines and form that apply to all applications for exemption.

Key changes

Key changes have been made to these documents in consideration of the Seafarers Rehabilitation and Compensation Directions 2023 which came into effect on 1 July 2023. These changes include:

  • revised factors for exemption
  • revised evidentiary requirements
  • requirement for exemption applications to be made not less than 14 days prior to the proposed commencement date.

The Seacare Authority has also published a comparison of the Seacare scheme to other Australian workers’ compensation schemes.

Applications for exemption

All applications for exemption must be made using the revised application form. The revised documents, including the comparison document, are published on the Exemption from Coverage page.
