Key outcomes from the 10 June 2021 Seacare Authority meeting

The Seacare Authority met via videoconference on 10 June 2021. The key outcomes of the meeting are set out in this news item.

Meeting outcome

The Authority agreed to and has effected insurance for the Seafarers’ Safety Net Fund in compliance with the Act, at an increased premium, until 31 March 2022.

The Authority agreed to maintain the levy at $50 per berth, but to reconsider the levy at its November 2021 meeting to take into account the ongoing changes across the insurance market and the need to maintain proper reserves.

The Members considered the current environment in which the Seafarers scheme operates, and discussed issues relating to scheme viability, coverage, exemptions and the tightening insurance market, and agreed that review of the scheme should be encouraged.

Next meeting

The next meeting of the Seacare Authority will be held on 9 September 2021.
