Levy rate increase to $65 per berth – effective 1 April 2022

At its 25 November 2021 meeting, the Seacare Authority agreed on the need to increase the Seafarers Safety Net Fund (Fund) levy rate from $50 per berth to $65 per berth.

Without this change, there was significant risk to the viability of the Fund.

The Seacare Authority recommended to Senator the Hon Michaelia Cash, Minister for Industrial Relations, that the levy rate be increased from $50 per berth to $65 per berth. The Minister has agreed to this recommendation, and the Governor-General has made the Seacare Rehabilitation and Compensation Levy Amendment Regulations 2022 following the Federal Executive Council meeting of 3 March 2022.

The increase to the levy will take effect from 1 April 2022, in line with the quarter four 2021-22 berth and levy reporting period.
